Welcome to Wewoka!

Wewoka is a unique city located just 15 miles south of I-40 and is easily accessible to both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Named by the Seminoles after a small water fall north of town, Wewoka means “Barking Water”.  It is the capitol of the Seminole Nation and the county seat of Seminole County.  Wewoka is a city rich in history, diverse in population and culture, and one of the oldest cities in the state of Oklahoma. Along with a $1.4 million renovation of downtown and a small town friendly atmosphere, the community of Wewoka offers visitors a variety of sites and activities such as the multi-cultured Sorghum Day Festival, Seminole Nation Museum, Seminole Nation “Whipping Tree”, Wewoka Switch Depot, and the Cedar Street Blues and Jazz Festival. The Wewoka Lake, located north of town, offers full hook-up camping, fishing, boating and swimming and the Dr. Gil Morgan Golf Course has been rated as one of the best nine-hole courses in the state.  Wewoka was named “Tourism City of the Year” in 2003 and the Sorghum Festival was awarded the Best Event of the Year by the Governor’s Tourism Conference in 2000. It is consistently one of the highest rated festivals in the state. Wewoka takes a progressive look to the future and offers an ideal economic climate for the establishment or relocation of industry. We will work as hard for you as we do at making our town a great place to live. We love Wewoka and we are sure that you will too!
